The Boxer Shiraz exhibits a black/blue purple color, an incredible density of fruit, along with that tell tale purity, blackberries, white flowers, melted chocolate, sweet licorice and subtle wood. Full bodied, beautifully textured and layered, with an awesome finish it should drink well for 4-6+ years. 95 points. Robert Parker Jr Wine Advocate # 165

Mollydooker 2006 The Boxer Shiraz
(about 1 year ago)I thought this was an excellent wine. Beautifully dark with rich texture and flavors. Smooth drinking after setting for only a few moments to breathe. Well worth the $21.

(about 1 year ago)This wine is rich, chewy, full-bodied, and pleasingly tannic. Some might say the finish is hot, but really, it leaves a dark cherry, jammy taste, then sparkles. It is not a complex or nuanced wine, and it is not for those in a mood for a sophisticated, layered burgundy. But it does deliver a powerful, satisfying fruit-forward burst of flavor -- with a noticeable alcoholic lift.

(about 1 year ago)Not sure what to think. The 2005 got incredible reviews especially by RP. NOSE: Fruit, fruit, fruit, oak, and alcohol, alcohol, alcohol; TASTE: Can you say jammy? Loads of cherry and blackfruits, some oak, but not too much for me, and wow, a slap in the face of alcohol like I took a shot of vodka, velvety at first but dissapointed in the finish, mouthfeel was medium bodied but then faded away quite quickly and then you get the EtOH (alcohol) shows it's ugly head. I didn't decant, maybe that would help. Overall, I'd definiately drink it again but probably won't go out of my way to do so.

(about 1 year ago)After all the press surrounding Mollydooker, I went out and bought quite a bit of the new stuff, so I certainly wanted to love this wine. And it is delicious, offering super jammy notes and amazing density. For me though, it just falls short on several levels, offering little to no complexity as well as very pronounced alcohol on the finish. The noticeable lack of tannin, coupled with a general sense of being out of balance, suggest this wine will fall apart in less than two years.
Not a bad value for $20, especially in that it takes the fruit bomb concept and runs with it. But for me it is a little over the top.

(11 months ago)Big, in your face, in a very new world way (Fruit Bomb). Tons of dark berries, cinnamon, cloves, some coffee, and dark chocolate. The alcohol is a little intense, but so is the fruit.

(11 months ago)Another delicious Mollydooker. Very dark. Candy and fruit nose with something slightly floral going on. Black currant and lots of plum with a very faint bit of chocolate. Nice long finish. Definitely a "hot" wine at 16%, but the fruit can handle it - another great solo drinker that probably doesn't pair well with much food. Give this a try...

(9 months ago)Nose: Fruity, jammy, vanilla bean, motor oil, alcohol. Taste: cherries, raspberries, "cough medicine." This was a big wine with a strong flavor. It was vert smooth, but you can definately tell that there is a lot of alcohol. The flavor was not overly fruity, there was good balance, but I wish the finish had been longer. I think I liked this wine better than Mollydooker's Two Left Feet.

(8 months ago)This wine has become so popular that its price has inflated well over Sarah and Sparky's intended price. Knowing about their glycerol-boosting fermentation methods, I expected a super-rich, overly-sweet wine that bore no resemblance to Shiraz. It turns out there was more to the wine than I expected. NOSE: Lots of alcohol interference, at times appeared more muted than the other shiraz's we were tasting. Noteable and pleasing Shiraz note framed by rich, real fruit. A delicious if not complex nose. PALATE: As expected, glycerol sweetness prevailed. A long, extracted wine, with a spicy bite, and bigger tannins than the '06 Maitre d' (though still subdued). To my palate, significantly better than the '06 Maitre D'. I appreciate that Sarah and Sparky Marquis have developed a truly unique, recognizable style of wines. Not drinkable for my palate. 12/7/07
