The Metal Label White Viognier
(about 1 year ago) buddy icon ricard 90.0/100
This is a New World Viognier that could practically be mistaken for a Rhone Viognier. It's got a rich, bronzed golden colour, very clean and bright. The nose is a heady concoction of honey, peach and vanilla, leading to a marvellously chewy, fruity, spicy palate of excellent structure. The acidity is perfectly balanced against the fruit, providing balance and length. In addition, the mouthfuls of glycerin and alcohol (14.5% vol) make this an opulent, hedonistic wine. Quite good! And good value too at £6 (about $12). *Added six days later* - I've upped the rating a point to 90. Why? Because the last third of the bottle, which I kept chilled and tightly closed, has improved. This is a superb value wine. It's complex, exciting and a real pleasure to drink so it deserves a place in the 90+ pantheon.
