If you want a simple, accessible, fruity and not-over-oaked Chardonnay for 3 bucks, this is a good choice! There is some peach in the nose, with a little vanilla. The taste is fruity and slightly sweet, but not overly-so. The acidity is refreshing and the body is fairly light. It went really well with our meal.

After reading about how all the wine geeks were up in arms over the fact that the 2005 “2 buck chuck” Chardonnay was the gold medal winner at the California state fair, I had to try a bottle. I have to say it is not bad, and much better than some $10 to $15 bottles I have had in the past. Refreshing peach and pear notes on the nose. Mouth feel was clean and crisp. Simple, but enjoyable. UPDATE: There must be some serious bottle variation in this wine, because I had 2 more glasses (from 2 different bottles) at a recent party and the first glass was a horrible bitter mess and the next glass was more like my notes above but still not as good. I guess that could happen when you crank out about 100,000 cases a year!!
