Aquilon is not an ordinary wine. It has a fabulous, huge nose of great concentration of fresh brambly forest fruit, old leather, pepper and cloves. There is a strong dominance of blackberry - in fact it's like dipping your fingers in the richest blackberry jam and sucking them, but you get it delivered to your palate in a structure whose balance between acidity and tannin is near perfect and seamlessly beatiful. Aquilon has sensational length, and despite its youth, it's rounded, velvety, expansive and expressive. It's not one for the squeamish - this is a true monster. Had this again on 13 November 2007 in Madrid, with the following comments: A little closed on the nose on this occasion. Pleasant aromas of blackberry, cherry and fruitcake. Great flavours coat the tongue: intense fruit reduction, chocolate truffles, cocoa, sweet spice. Fabulous long and lingering finish. Monstruous alcohol level at 15.5% 94 points.
