Anthill Farms "Comptche Ridge" 2005
(about 1 year ago)Very light in color, with an aroma of red berries with a little raspberry. The body is medium to light with a nice hit of spice (like cinnamon), and a hit of heat that reduced with breathing. A bit of a chalky sour cherry finish, with very very fine tannins that were pretty smooth and long lasting. A very nice wine with food, not as great on its own. Very much a pass at this price. I was expecting a lot more for the money, especially for a California pinot with only 1 ton of fruit per acre...

(about 1 year ago)Very light color, even for Pinot. Nose was very fruity with just a bit of cinnamon. Taste was similar - cherry and spice with soft tannins. A surprising amount of heat for a 13.8% wine - and a Pinot at that. Definitely a new world style of fruity California pinot - not even a hint of vegetal/earth/mineral. Unfortunately, it fell just a bit flat on the new world fruity Pinot front - not enough there for my tastes. A great food wine, thus the score, but for the money, there are simply more enjoyable options.
