The 2004 Sophia bottling has sadly already attenuated at such a young age and collectors should drink their bottles now. After just 40 minutes of decanting the wine had just about completely dried out showing no fruit, only some notes of dill, chocolate, cedar vanillin, alcohol and ocassionally a chloro aspect which no doubt is from enviornmental TCA. It was obvious however that the fruit from this vineyard is top-notch in Hawkes Bay as the wine had very fine concentration and there was good integration of alcohol and tannin. No real perceivable acidity left the wine both aromatically and gustatorily flat. I consider this to be a horrible misuse of a great vineyard source! Drank with grilled beef, the wine did show nice flavors of black raspberry. (84/100).

Possible one of the worst wines that I have had in this price range. The wine was dark and heavy with an odd melon tone. The finish is indescribably rough. Avoid this one.
