(about 1 year ago)Butter popcorn smell. Tasted like oak, sour cherry, blueberry, with a hint of pepper
Santa Ema Reserve Merlot 2004
(about 1 year ago)Hearty for a merlot, has legs, long lasting. Fruity yet dry.
Santa Ema Reserve Merlot 2004
(about 1 year ago)The color of this wine is dark with purple edges. On the nose this wine brings a bouquet of black fruit and that unmistakable buttered popcorn that you get from a heavily oaked California Chardonnay. This wine explodes into your mouth with full-bodied black fruit that leads into a heavy vanilla/oak mid palate and finishes with chocolate/vanilla. I would like this wine if the oak monster wasn't ripping my face off. Really, the heavy vanilla/oak that I am getting from this wine is something I have only experienced from California Chards and to me is awkward and masking the spice you normally get from Merlot. Not a fan, but has some redeeming qualities.
