Tasting Notes from Cork’d Members
1998 Castello Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Poggio Alle Mura
(about 1 year ago)Found this bottle at a local gourmet grocery store. I was skeptical on the storage conditions, but the price was right. Right away the nose was a wonderful blend of concentrated dark berries, spice and smoke. After the impressive nose, the palate was slightly disappointing. There were some nice sour cherry notes, but overall the fruit was thin and the tannins were all but gone. The finish was enjoyable, but short. In the end, I think this was a really nice, easy drinking Brunello, but I can’t help but wonder if the wine is getting past its prime or if this bottle was a victim of poor storage.

(10 months ago)Found 2 bottles at a grocery store in Copenhagen. I was also very skeptical on the storage conditions. The price was low(17USD). Amazing wine!!
