Joh. Jos. Prum Riesling Kabinett 2005
(about 1 year ago)Tasted August 2007. Lovely delicate pale yellow color. Not too much really coming through the nose right now, except a little slaty peach and sometimes a very faint bit of petrol. (I remember it being a little more aromatic a couple of months ago). Peaches with a little honey-like flavors upfront with a smooth transitions to wonderfully clear and elegant grapefruit yielding to lime flavors. Slate flavors hang subtly in the background in the mid palate. The grapefruit, limey finish stays focused for a little while before gracefully fading. Along with being very well balanced, it's a good example of delicate 'transparency' of flavors, and transitions of from upfront to mid palate, finish. It's better than good, but does not have the complexity and depth of other JJ Prums coming from Graacher Himelreich and Wehlener Sohnehur.

(about 1 year ago)Thought it might've been corked at first due to a little funk residing on the top edge of the cork but seemed fine. Heavy petrol coming through on the nose followed by hints of rocks/minerals and oak. A little fruit in the distance. Sweeter than expected, even for an 8% AC Kabinett. Lovely plum, apricot, tangerine and grapefruit party with some melted butter. After a few more hours the petrol in the nose tamed a bit and the aroma and taste took on celery, more citrus, honeydew melon and honey notes. It falls apart before the finish though and it comes of flabby and disjointed. Mainly, there's not enough acidity to balance the over-the-top sweetness and the alcohol. On the upside, it has a nice mouthfeel and a coating effect that makes it very drinkable.
