1999 Clos Du Val Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine blew me away - much more powerful and resonant than I had expected. It took twenty to thirty minutes before it it dropped it's shyness, but once it did it displayed an earthy truffle like pallate that just lingered. I actually opened the bottle by mistake, as we were just sitting down for a weeknight lamb roast, figuring something in the $20-$30 range was the appropriate choice. It wasn't until I had pulled the cork that I realized that we were about to consume a $90 bottle with our Monday night meal. As I held it up to the light and inspected it's deep brown hue I knew this would be something special, and special it was.
