92 points from the Wine Advocate! They say, "The 2004 Solanera is a blend of 65% Monastrell, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Tintorera raised in French oak. More complex than its siblings, this purple-colored wine offers fragrant aromas of spice box, smoke, blueberry pie and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, the wine is plush and full-flavored with enough structure to support several years of additional bottle age. It should drink well for 8-10 years. 2/28/2007"

(12 months ago)This wine is really good! On first sniff it has a sweet blueberry/blackberry rock candy nose with lavender and a little bit of charcoaled burnt wood...Mmmmm great nose! On the palate it is VERY balanced and tiny bit dry with gobs of black fruit and some licorice, too...very long finish...yes, I need to buy some more, especially at this price!... Again, cork'd is missing another region - Yecla.

(11 months ago)I splashed the wine into the glass and let it sit for 30 minutes. Still, it seemed tight, or maybe the tannins just need another couple of years to soften and the flavor is just that dark and bitter. Aromas of blackberry, cedar, and wet leaves. Flavors of blackberry, wet soil (the black kind from Illinois or Iowa), a touch of oak, and maybe a faint suggestion of gunsmoke on the finish. Medium body. Firm tannins. Good (great at under 20$), but I'd wait a couple of years to pop it again.

(10 months ago)After breathing for four hours, the nose was still a bit astringent. A lush medium-full body with dark currant, blackberry and mocha flavors with a finish that is incredibly impressive at this price point. If you don't let this wine breathe for at least three or four hours, it won't show to it's full potential. That goes for most others too.

(6 months ago)Initially a heavy aroma of mineral and earth. Oak dominated the flavor profile with touch of unripe blackberry. Surprisingly acidic and light bodied. Based on other reviews we may not have let it breathe long enough (only 3 hours). Not a crowd pleaser, but I will be putting a few bottles down to see how it develops.

(5 months ago)Outstanding pour for the price point! This is a complex, full bodied wine with an overall nice structure. The nose has hints of smoke and spice. Very nice overall.

(4 months ago)I don't care about price point, this wine is fantastic at any. Forrest floor, smoke, dark chocolate and ripe black berry are overwhelming here. Yes, it needs time to breathe but almost all greats do. This wine is an example of why I hardly drink Napa cabernet anymore. They are usually boring for three times the price. Imported by Eric Solomon. If you don't know who is find out, it will make your wine buying life easier as it did mine.
