Jean Baptiste and Fanette, the owners and winemakers at Domaine Galus, both come from well known Burgundian winemaking families. Fresh out of oenology school, the two bought this small 12 ha. estate and created their own winery. This wine is a great example of their traditional training and the new fresh style of these young up and coming French winemakers. -- greg moore, moore bros The appellation was previously called Costières du Gard before changing its name to Costières de Nimes in 1989. The vineyards cover the area between Nimes and the Petit Rhône, one of the rivers of the delta rim in Camargue. At the point where Languedoc meets Rhône. However Costières de Nimes is quite different from any appellation. First of all, because of the uniqueness of Camargue region. The soil is made there of round pebbles. Costières de Nimes predominantly produces red and rosé wine from Carignan grapes primarily and Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre and other typical Languedoc grape varieties. Costières de Nimes wines are usually fruity. Reds are rich, closer to Rhône wines than Languedoc.

2005 Domaine Galus Costieres de Nimes
(9 months ago)Very fruity medium bodied wine. Floral nose, with a hint of spice box. Pure strawberry and raspberry notes -- very jammy for a french wine. Pleasant. Do NOT try this with tomato based dishes -- the acidity completely mutes the fruit flavors. We made that mistake for the first half of the bottle. Would most likely pair well with a roast chicken or charcuterie.

(5 months ago)Thick floral scent on the nose, very much a raspberry jam flavor, very rich and full fruit flavor on the palate. If you like the fruit, you would like this wine.
