Wine Spectator panned this wine with a 69, essential calling it swill. That was not my experience at all. A medium-bodied cab with well-balanced fruit. Hints of cassis, dark berry and mocha, along with a bit of spice. More interesting to me was the finish on this wine. WS called it "chalky", but I tasted the smoothest, most integrated tannins. I've heard the phrase "silky tannins" - until now I didn't know what that meant. I think there must have been a bad batch of this wine, accounting for WS's rating. For me, I'd give this a 92, based on the integration of the fruit and tannin and the over all smoothness of the wine.

CRANBERRIES! That's the initial attack on the nose: luscious, tangy cranberries. Secondary on the nose was a light vanilla and almost a meaty aspect, very cool. On the palate, the tannins were strong but not bitter, they completely covered my palate, I could immediately tell this was something special. Heavy with the cherries, there's big fruit with an almost ridiculously long finish. Smooth and silky, this wine had nothing sour going on at all.
