Chateau Ste Michelle Ethos 2004 Syrah
(8 months ago)Out of the bottle this wine brings a really nice dark color, expected but nonetheless nice. Nose brings plumy jammy goodness with some blueberry preserves swimming around as well. The palate doesn’t deliver the flavor profile I was expecting, a little tame and timid, the mouthfeel however is really nice. The finish is a nice rolling down hill slope, gentle, unspectacular, some slight cranberry skin like tannins but soft and unfrightening. Kind of a lame finish. This is what I call a “safe” wine. Almost everything it does it does well, but it’s nothing that hasn’t already been done somewhere else and many times over. It takes no chances, delivers no surprises, and is for all intents and purposes just being safe. All that aside, this is a nice wine, nothing spectacular and at somewhere in the neighborhood of $32 - $40 I would definitely pass on this wine.
