Our 2004 Sonoma Coast Syrah is sourced from two vineyards in the Sonoma Coast appellation, the Sangiacomo vineyard and the Leveroni Vineyard. The unique climate of this region is reflected in the elegance and structure of the wine. The majority of the Syrah grapes were sourced from the Sangiacomo's "Old Lakeville Road" vineyard. It is a twelve acre Syrah vineyard that sits atop a steep hillside over looking the Petaluma River. Although technically in the Sonoma Coast appellation, this vineyard is located just West of the Carneros hills and benefits from many of the climatic influences of the Carneros region, most notably, the marine influence of the San Pablo bay, cooling fogs in the morning and evening, and low rainfall. The slope is approximately 45 degrees at its steepest and faces southwest, forming a natural opening onto the San Francisco bay. When designing the vineyard and choosing clonal selections, the Sangiacomo family sought assistance from Ehren Jordan of Neyers vineyards. The Neyers family also supplied the budwood with cuttings from Cornas, Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie in France's Northern Rhône. Jordan selected these three different clones, which were ideal for the vineyard’s climate, soil composition and topography. The Leveroni Vineyard is located Southwest of the town of Sonoma. Pat Stornetta and Joe Leveroni, a sister-brother team, are winegrowers on the 570-acre Home Ranch with its 250 acres of vineyard and the family’s dairy of 500 milking cows. They continue a four-generation tradition of farming and conservation that has preserved this historic site since 1886. This full-bodied, cooler climate syrah effortlessly balances concentration with structure. A luscious, aromatic blend of black cherry, wild raspberry, mint, smoky oak, grilled meats, and black pepper; followed seamlessly by sweet cherry and plum on the palate; combined with dusty tannins to produce a mouth-watering finish; expressive and intense. Technical Info: 14.5% Alcohol, 6.2g/L TA, 3.61pH, 620 Cases produced.
