Hahn Estates 2005 Monterey Pinot Noir
(about 1 year ago)I'll get blasted as a heretic for saying this: I don't really like Pinot Noir reds. I'm sure there are excellent ones out there, and I hope I haven't had one of these great wines. Because all the PNs I encounter leave me wanting. That said, this baby is among the better ones I've had. Please, please, please give it ample time to breathe -- booziness goes away and spices really come out to play with lots of ripe fruits after maybe an hour or so. This wine really made me consider acting on that "Gosh, I should get a decanter" impulse I have every once in a while. I think this is a solid wine; just not a fan of the varietal.

(8 months ago)nose of red vine licorice, strawberries, cherries, playdough, white pepper, butterscotch with a hint of heat in the nose . Wow suprisingly complex nose. up front you get hit withn strawberries and spice mellowing into maraschino cherry juice. good mouthfeel, good length a tough of alcohol showing but for the price great wine.
