(8 months ago)Haven't had this wine in a while, but it is one of my wife and I's favorite wines and we always pick up a bottle when we see it. Great fruit. Long finish. Never a disappointment

I'm a big-time fan of the Concannon Petite Sirah - the ORIGINAL west coast Petite producer, yo. David Bruce is the other major producer of this varietal that lines the wine store shelves, albeit at a higher price point.
I was underwhelmed by Da Bruce at first, even with a good hour of decanting. But with many more hours out of the bottle, this Sirah really opened up on the palate, and the finish gained a set of legs. The nose is still hobbled, and DB's take on Petite Sirah lacks a lot of the spice that really distinguishes Concannon and even some poor renditions of the varietal. The flavor profile is closer to that vast generic California red wine taste that spans Cabernets, Merlots, and almost everything else - long red berries + short black berries. The oak is really nicely balanced with the fruits though.
My final verdict is that this bottle is a very good wine, but not an exceptional Petite Sirah. In a blind tasting I would probably rate this 90 points, but with the expectations I bring to the table from a PS, one of my favorite grapes, I'm weighing in at 89 points with two first names!

(5 months ago)The nose is old world in style--earth, mushrooms, tar, and maybe a touch of tapenade. The flavor profile is dominated by plum and blueberries. This wine has a rich velvety mouthfeel and a medium-lengthed smooth finish. David Bruce may be more famous for it's pinot noir, but petite sirah has always been up there as well.
