E. Guigal Côtes du Rhône Red 2004
(about 1 year ago)The color on the wine is a very dark and luscious red. The aromatics are substantial. I can smell the wine as it sits in a glass a good two feet away. With the glass to my nose I get red berries, definitely some spice and what I swear up and down is glass cleaner (Windex). On the palate this is a good wine. Very simple, nothing complex going on, but it is well made. The body is very full for a Cotes du Rhone, the texture is silky, and the fruit is quite nice. This is an elegant old world fruit and not new world extracted. The finish has good length for the price point and the balance is just right.

(9 months ago)Very dark color. Even in front of a light, only the edges show much red. I get milk chocolate, cherries and raspberries on the nose. The initial attack is all red fruit with a medium body and weight on the palate. I get a mild hint of gameyness on the mid palate, making me want some duck. The finish is chocolate and spice, which I like a lot. This is a wine that really needed a nice long decanting before it shed its hot, tannic finish. Make sure it spends some time aerating before you drink it!

(8 months ago)A little wet newspaper, moss, and cinnamon behind a generic redfruit bouquet....all in a good way. Nice little wine...not going to rock your world, but worth a try on a Thursday night...whatever that means.

(7 months ago)Get out of the house, get in the car, go to Cost Plus World Market near you, and get a bottle of E. Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2004. Awesome. A GSM - Grenache, Syrah (Shiraz), Mourvedre from France - to die for. Especially at this price. Smooth, balanced, fruity, hefty, and goes well with spicy food. How the hell they can grow it, harvest it, ferment it, barrel it, bottle it, and ship it here and make a profit on it for the price I paid for it is beyond me!

(4 months ago)A very good Cotes du Rhone. Full-bodied, fruits. A good blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre. A very good value for money.
