I’m up in Washington at my mom’s house for the next week, and this trip I’m going to dive into Washington and Oregon wines. I began my northwest wine exploration with this Pinot that I picked up at Safeway in Port Orchard. They only had ten or eleven pinots amid rows of Merlot – maybe the Sideways effect hasn’t hit up here? I can’t imagine it not… Definite shot of shroominess on the cork pop, a very good sign. Cherries, smoke, pepper – all good stuff. There’s some kind of cheese in there too but I can’t pin down what or even exactly where. The smokiness really sets this wine apart from other Pinots I’ve had. An fine beginning to a week of northwest wines.

Like many Duck Pond pinot noirs, very young flavor with the potential to mature. Not meant for long storage (more than 4-6 months). At it's peak, a decent inexpensive pinot noir.
