Seghesio 2004 Barbera d'Alba
(over 2 years ago)A great food wine! Aroma of cedar, raisins and cherries... Taste of sour cherries, currant and green tomato. Acidic and high in alcohol (14%), light on the tannins. Fresh and tart, though not mouth-curdling, with a medium body like straight Tempranillo. All that acidity comes in handy with a classically zippy red sauce, unlocking a round, tongue-coating pepper spice, upon which the fruits achieve bouyancy, followed by a long finish that winks playfully at Mexican chocolate. Sassy and wise beyond its years!

(over 2 years ago)Initial whiff will definitely lead to many satisfying sips. This wine is quite drinkable now, but I think will get better in a few years. Good body, smooth yet robust classic Barbera flavors. Compared to others, I would say this is a bit lighter, which to me is a relief since some can be "over the top" dense and either too "juicy" or exhibit too much tannin. Full retail of $26.00 is too high, but I'm sure it can be found for less.
