The Viognier grape is originally from France's Rhone Valley. It is quite an unusual white because of its up-front floral nose. I usually think of honeysuckle or lilac. You may love or hate this one. I like this with lobster and butter but also admit sometimes this wine isn't so food friendly.

When I first tasted this wine, I thought it was good, not great, definitely not awesome. But then I got distracted by something and had to leave my glass for a while. When I returned and tasted it again, it was a different wine. It's great stuff now. I think the problem earlier was that it was too cold. All I could smell were intense herbal notes and it tasted much the same. I kept wondering where the Vigonier was. But now . . . the nose has turned to sort of a honeyed apricot. And the taste? Imagine that apricot toasted with honey drizzled on top. Note to self: go get some more and let it "warm" a bit before serving. This wine would be superb with Thai food.
