2004 Marchesi Alfieri Sostegno Monferrato
(about 1 year ago)Gorgeous color out of the bottle. Nose is a little tight for me, actually reminds of walking through the cacti section of a greenhouse. WTF? Midpalate is really nice, lots of complexity swirling about, some dark cherry syrup reduction with tobacco and sawdust. Kind of reminds me of some of the older Bordeaux’s I’ve had actually. This is nuts. The finish is quite nice, like a dry extension of the palate. I’m loving that this wine is dry but NOT bone dry. The nose really set me up for the Kleenex in the mouth dryness but it never came. Kind of old world and new world Italian if that exists. A tremendous wine for the price. Excellent shizz.
