2001 Massolino Parafada Barolo
(10 months ago)Everyone who knows me personally knows I am traditionally an ass when it comes to Italian wines so take this review to heart. Out of the bottle and decanted for three hours, this wine brings a seriously intoxicating nose. Gorgeous aromatics, bouquets of fresh violets, light French Eau de Toilette nestled amongst rough well-worn leather. This nose is the kind of nose you just don’t want to stop, like sniffing the neck of your loved one just before it rains. Somehow, it reminds me of my childhood. On the palate this wine continues to impress, lush, evocative, gorgeous ribbons of flavor. Dry yet balanced, the parched mouthfeel is replaced by strippers and fireworks dancing about the palate before rolling into the impressive finish of refined molasses and black olive that just simply doesn’t end. This would truly take another bottle and half a day to fully evaluate and appreciate. A tremendous effort. Bold, romantic, complex, and beautiful. The sexiest wine I’ve had in 2007.
