2005 Boarding Pass Shiraz
(6 months ago)Robert Parker gave this wine a 92 rating, and we agree! R Wineries is apparently a new venture - a compilation of the companies and winemakers from "Bitch" "3 Rings" "Marquis Philips" and "Roogle". We enjoyed a bottle tonight with turkey italian sausage with peppers and onions on pasta (in chicken broth), and it was a beautiful complement. The wine was big and juicy, with notes of cherry and smoke. It had a firm stucture with solid tannins. For the price (it was marked $18.99 and we got the second bottle at half price), we loved it and thought it to be a tremendous value. We'll be back for more!

(3 months ago)Fairly balanced and a reasonably good value for the price. I like the marketing with the label and tag. Cherry, cedar, and snickers. Will last over 24 hours opened.

(3 months ago)Lovely wine. Fun label. Nice dark floral nose. Pleasant weight and body with a velvety mouthfeel. Despite its 15% alcohol, the balance of spiciness, fruits and tannins kept things under control. It paired surprisingly well with the second-half of my Japanese meal which included delicate whitefish and red snapper sashimi, lobster and an assortment of rolls including eel, yellowfin tuna and soft-shell crab. My guest and the chef were both very complimentary of the wine. I wouldn't have thought that a big Australian Shiraz like this would have gone well with delicate whitefish sashimi but assumptions are meant to be shattered I suppose. I'll be getting this again.

(about 1 month ago)I had this wine at a party recently. Loved the packaging - very clever and unique. So I was a bit disappointed when I tried it. The nose was fairly simple - berries and some cedar. The palate was smooth, but nothing to write home about. You definitely feel the 15% alcohol on this wine, and sometimes that tends to overshadows the fruit. Again, I didn't get much on the palate but ripe berries and some plum. I'm surprised it got such a high score from Parker, but then again I'm not!

(9 days ago)Looking at the label we did not expect much from this wine. It was kinda like going out on Halloween and expecting those little bite size candies that you usually get...but, every once in a while you run into that house that that gives you the full size candy bar. Now that is exciting!!
We liked it! http://www.justagrape.com/boarding-pass-australia-2005/
