Tasting notes: The history of Chateau de Lavagnac dates back to the 15th century. Situated in the commune of Sainte Terre, bordered by the Juridiction of Saint Emilion to the South, Chateau de Lavagnac possesses a high-quality terroir. The vineyards are made up of the renowned grape varieties synonymous with Bordeaux: Merlot: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon: 20% Cabernet Franc: 5% They give the wine great elegance. The constant care lavished upon the vineyard in the purest Bordeaux tradition helps to produce fruity wines with well-balanced tannins that are crisp on the pallet. A nice wine for the price. Definitely not a lot of fruit. Bitter tannins when first opened but relaxed after a few hours. A little thin for my taste.

This wine needs to breath. Much more enjoyable after an hour or two. Thin nose, some fruit, but not great. Short finish. Not fake or sugar. Not bad for the money, but I have had better.

Raspberry and Cranberry on the nose. Definitely a potpourri odor as well. Very flowery. The same on the taste for the most part. A little woody on the mid palate. The problem here is the severely bitter and tight tannins on the finish. This can be real hard to get by. It'll obviously loosen up over time, so this is a good cheap investment if you want to put it away. While I feel it's an 85 point wine right now, it could easily jump to 90 in a few years. A great Bordeaux for the price point.

A hint of strawberries on the nose with some spiced fruit along with some cranberry. Plum and cedar on the mid-palate with some tannins on the end. I found the tannins to be a plus but this was decanted for 2.5 hrs. They might have been overpowering to begin with, but I personally found them very appealing. Great wine at the price, complex interesting fruit flavors.

Smell over the top cherries and strawberries. Taste is mild and easy to drink, good everyday wine.

Very thin with no terroir whatsoever. No body, no oak, no fruit . . . one of the most boring wines I've ever had. So this is what the fabled '05's are supposed to be?

When I first opened this, I could tell that it would benefit from some serious time in the decanter. One night was decanted for 6 hours and another night for about 12 hours. Cranberry and raspberry with some floral tones on the nose. Relatively simple smooth ripe cherry flavor on the initial taste with a secondary bite of raspberry, pepper and asian spice and some earth. Finish was decent but perhaps a little harsh from the tannins. For the price, it is fun to experiment with the decanter with some sips along the way to see what is happening, but didn't change my life.
