92% merlot, 8% Cab; from klwines.com: Medlock Ames is a hot new winery garnering the attention of the wine press and lifestyle magazines for their youth, exuberance and environmental consciousness. A joint venture between longtime friends Christopher Medlock James and Ames Morrison, their Bell Mountain Vineyard is 56 acres of organically farmed grapes on a 335 acre parcel of rolling oak and madrone woodland at the southwest edge of the Alexander Valley. The 2003 Bell Mountain Merlot is full of cherry, mint and black currant aromas followed by a rich, round entry highlighted by anise, cocoa and spicy nuances. Plenty of stuffing mid-palate, this is an excellent wine from a must-watch producer whose wines more than live up to the hype.
