This wine was chosen for me as a gift, based entirely on the label. I collect frogs, you see, and there is a leaping, smiling frog on the label, whose skin seems to be a luxurious velvet green tapestry with a pattern of grape leaves and clusters. Happily, the wine inside the bottle is as delicious as the label is attractive.

I am not a big fan of Merlot, but the winemaker(s) at Nathanson Creek Cellars have done something special with this wine! It's lighter in body than I expected, fresh and brambly on the nose, as well as the palate. The label refers to an "innovative 'soft press' method" of crafting the wine... I have no idea what that really means, but I'll thank them to keep doing it! I'll be buying more of this (it tastes like it will be best while it's young), as well as checking out any other of their varietals I can find.

Very faint nose; hints of anise and tannin. Pleasant, warm, round taste of fruit with little tannic bite. It was VERY good with some garlicky chicken breast. Simple and enjoyable, nothing negative.

I can't tell you what it is, but I can tell you what is is not, and it's not bitter, it's very smooth. No tail on this wine, but there's legs... Somewhat.
