This one took some breathing time to smooth out. Not that the alcohol is particularly high; I'm guessing it has more to do with the 2003 vintage. The first glass (even before I poured some in a carafe) threw some soft sediment, which surprised me. Anyway, after some time, the nose is thick and jammy, even plumb/pruny. Deep tannin, berry and spice. Smells a lot pricier than it is! The taste was bitingly acidic at first, but after over an hour a wonderful grape jam character kicked in. Plenty of tannin, berry and pepper, too. Really nice wine, and an outstanding value. Was perfect with a spicy ginger pork.
