le Pigeonnier d la Dourbie 2005 Vin de Pays d'Oc

Color: VERY DARK. Deep purple. Nose: blackberries, cinnamon, allspice, dark berries...a little Worcestershire/vinegar going on in the background. A hint of strawberry preserves. A little meatiness, too - like ground pork, uncooked. Taste: A hint of dark fruit on the attack, extremely tannic but not too bitter. Like a mouthful of dirt and a hint of raw asparagus or dark green leafy vegetables. Not a lot of flavor to the finish, but plenty of dryness remains...perhaps a hint of steak juice soaked up by dry bread. Over all not my cup-o-tea. I don't think I'd choose it again. UPDATE: clear-as-day tobacco in the finish - it stays with you for a LONG time...my mouth tastes like I just sucked on a cigar for a half hour. I bumped the rating up five points because it's so fascinating and jumped out at me. It's almost like I tasted a bit of the bitter ash, too.
