Beaune du Chateau, 1er cru

tasted 2/08 decanted for 1 hour. robe - medium cherry core fading to the rim. nose - the nose surely has young pinot aspects, focused but slightly uncharectaristic. it has some high pitched red fruit especially rasberry, strawberry and i slight wiff of oak, but really clean and discreet. nice. palate - right from the bottle it offers some real high pitched fruit that shows slightly astringent acidity and was boarder line volatile. after some time though, this rounded out a bit and became pleasurable. there was some lingering oak on the palate, but again very discreet. i think this wine is still pretty closed. it did not budge much and did not develop much depth. it will see how this turns out in 5 years. my big problem with the wine is that it does not show a lot of character. as it comes from 3 to 4 vineyards, i thinks it is almost committee like in the sense that is too voted upon. maybe a little too international in style. rebuy - maybe buy the 05, probably Note: after finishing the bottle, i realized that this needs to be decanted more or rest in the cellar for another 4 to 5. who knows, maybe it will expand and broaden more
