Chateau Sansonnet 2004
(3 months ago)Bought this at Wine Library - had the '03 and was blown away, so had to give it a shot. Popped at room temp, pass through the Vinturi. Very dark for merlot, dare say inky? Nose is dark fruit, currants, a pleasing herbal undertone, tiny bit of fresh tar. Attacks the palate silky smooth and gracefully, sour cherry dominates with the tar flavor coming through a bit, which I like very much. Brilliant acidity builds on the mid-palate, very juicy and fresh. Finishes a little rocky, might be due to the young tannins, this is still a baby Bordeaux after all, '04! All in all, a very well rounded wine, can't wait to see it in 3-5 years however. Must cellar some!
