A few years ago I was walking in a national park on the eastern seaboard of the united states. my friend and i spent a cloudy september day hiking to the base of a 6,000 foot mountain and then back up to our car. On the way back up, the clouds parted and while we looked up at the picturesque beauty of a blue sky through the boughs of enormous conifers, i saw a large black object out of the corner of my eye. I yelled (this story has also been told with the word "shriek" in place of yell. i prefer yell.) and ducked into a fetal position. 15 minutes later, my friend nudged me and said "that wasn't a bear, it is a tree stump"... i immediately stopped rocking back and forth in my carefully assembled nest of pinecones and deer droppings, grabbed my walking stick and continued up the mountain. for the price, this wine may seem scary. $6 wines are usually only noticed during peripheral scans of the local wine merchant, and before even considering buying them, we form an idea in our heads of corked vinegar in bright packaging... but don't worry, it's good stuff. the barefoot chardonnay is regularly consumed by me and the missus.
