2006 Thomas-Labaille Sancerre Chavignol Les Monts Damnés
(3 months ago)I bought this wine as part of a sampler from my most trusted local wine store to broaden my wine horizons. I can't say that this one in particular was that enlightening. It tasted similar to other French white wines I've tried, like Chenin Blanc. Compared to new world white wines, it seemed a bit "grim" to me, whereas "sunnier" wines are more approachable for me at this point. It was certainly a drinkable and elegant wine that paired nicely with the chicken tacos I enjoyed it with. But by no means did it inspire me to go out and buy more wine of this type. That being the case, I'm going to say "85" for this one. Not good, not bad. Just so so. And since it wasn't a cheap wine, I'm afraid I'm going to have to say that this wine represents a poor value. I learned since drinking this wine that it is a Sauvignon Blanc. For me, the Kim Crawford New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc presents a much better value of this varietal.
