Somewhat herbal and earthy on the nose, a wonderfully balanced Rhône-like meaty composition on the palate. The finish has a very pleasing but understated touch of vanilla from the old oak fermenting barrels. This wine was very satisfying right out of the bottle. It cries out for a nice steak or roast, but it also went well with a tomato sauce with onions, carrots and celery seasoned with thyme and bay leaf.
