A fabulous wine from every angle, this shows a ripe, cedary core of iodine, herbs, and toast. On the midpalate, the tobacco and spice really flex their muscles, but considerable tannin still gets in the way of a lot of underlying complexity. Fans of a "New World" style will love this wines ripe fruit profile and overall density, while fans of the "Old World" style will enjoy the earth, game, and mineral nuances.

Broodingly dark in color, this wine is already throwing some sediment. The winemaking style certainly lends itself to cellaring; I would think the wine will start to really get going after 2010, and it will no doubt have at least 10+ years of further improvement. Considering the wine's price and versatility, this might be the most complete wine I have ever tasted.
