Extremely rich and supple shiraz. The depth of flavor makes this one of the most remarkable bottles of wine I've ever had. After tasting at the winery, I drank a bottle in January 2006; the next is worth saving until 2009 at the earliest. "Jakkalsfontein is a firm wine with concentrated berry, spice, and meaty flavors and a long finish. To life!"

Tasted 2007-01-13 Found this too young yet, despite reviews elsewhere to the contrary. Rather more syrah than shiraz: little fruit on the nose, and rather restrained. Perhaps that's its youth? Spicy, with chocolate mid-palate, and something akin to cranberry or pomegranate trying to peek through the tannins at the end of the finish.
