Charles Shaw 2005 Chardonnay
(about 1 year ago)I found the Charles Shaw Chardonnay to be worse than the Sauvignon Blanc. Surly there is another inexpensive Chardonnay that tastes better than this. Considering its really low price point, it could be worse; however, I would suggest something else.

(about 1 year ago)OK, first off, it ainte $2 here. It was $3.21 OTD. They had over 70 cases of the stuff on the floor; one big giant end-cap. Color is standard basic light yellow, not big but more than a Pinot Gris. Nose is all bright fruit, Granny Smiths and grapefruit, with strawberry, and pear too now that it's opened up. It's a very nice nose. It gets much better as it opens and blows off it's heat. There's a lot of heat, on the nose and finish. That pretty much blows away in an hour or so of sitting out in my yard eating dinner. Mouth is big sweet fruit, like a Soave or Riesling. Finish is absolutely out of bounds. My first glass had a finish of heat and tannin that ripped my tongue and cheeks like a chain-saw. At least 30 seconds worth. I could really use an oak-monster and a pound of butter to calm this glass down. That was an hour ago. Now, it's much easier. The heat is gone and the sweet turns a bit dry on the finish. Still no oak, but some butter has found it's way out. This does not at all suck. It's actually screaming to be used in a white Sangria. I will finish this bottle.

(9 months ago)Very smooth and tasty. Nothing that knocked my socks off, but a great white.
