Red Wine Cabernet Sauvignon by Franciscan from Napa Valley, California. Exemplifies its terroir and vintage with its impeccable balance, and the way the ripe, sophisticated tannins wrap around the fleshy black currant, olive, chocolate and herb flavors. Finishes with some sweetness from charry oak. -Wine EnthusiastContinued at wine.com ›

Franciscan 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon
(over 2 years ago)One of our favorite slight-splurge kinda wines, Franciscan 2002 was a fantastic year. Deep, mellow, oaky but not woody. 2003 has the makings for another good year, and 2002 is basically unavailable. Clearly it's a bit raw, but has similar profiles and I expect it to lie nicely for 6 mos to a year to bring out the fuller textures. Deep ruby color, medium-bodied, not at all fruity, very much an oak and smoke kinda deal, but not overwhelming. Tannins still coming across a bit raw, but the balance is there.

(about 1 year ago)Full body, very drinkable (alone or w hors d'ouvres or dinner). The label will tell you about ripe fruit and they are not kidding, but it is not overwhelming. The label also mentions cedar and spice, but I'm really not finding that (fortunately). Smooth on the palate and a nice finish.

(about 1 year ago)RIPE fruit, with lots of interesting character. Didn't change my life but a solid bottle that lots of people will love.
