2008 Don Miguel Gascón Malbec

This 2008 is 100% Malbec aged for 7 months in American and French Oak. Its color is very Smoke on the Water. Obscure wine reference to the band Deep Purple, it can't be done? I say Nay. I get aromas of Blackberry, Blueberry, Cherry, and Plum. I also pickup some dust. It's a 2008 so it's a very young wine. It took about 5 hours of decanting to soften the alcohol on the nose. Flavors of Dark Fruit, Berries, and Oak. I also get gritty coffee grounds and bakers chocolate on the palate. Like a hint of Starbucks Mocha. Soft tannins on the finish. Slightly dry, but not overbearing.

Great Malbec for the price. The aroma and taste of the wine is of cherry, plums, "fruit roll-ups", dry fruits, pepper and a hint of anise and clove. For a young wine the smells and flavors are quite bold. The texture is rich, velvety, thick and round. Spicy finish.

Wonderful, intense ruby-purple color. A very intense "berry" aroma. Great fruity beginning with a dry, finish. Will try other Malbecs before I am sold on this one.

I get black cherry and black raspberry on the nose. Really smooth/light mouthfeel. Raspberry continues, with added hints of licorice and an interesting mineral note. Dry finish and pretty easy drinking.
