Label: Alamos Malbec is made from grapes grown on the eastern slopes of the pre-Andean mountains of Mendoza. The Catena family has been making wine in the region for more than 100 years. Today, Catena is the acknowledged quality pioneer and ambassador for Argentine wines around the world. All vineyards are hand-harvested. At the winery, the grapes are sorted and chosen by a group of eighteen trained winery staff before they are pressed into each Alamos cuvee.

Review: This Malbec has great color, very nice dark purple. I get aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, earth and pepper subtle leather and oak with a hint of licorice. Flavors of blackberry, black raspberry, leather, oak and bitter chocolate on the palate. It's also a little chalky. Remember when you would go outside after class to clean the blackboard erasers by banging them together. That chalk dust went everywhere. That’s in this wine, which is fun. A little too much oak on the finish, but it's not overbearing. Firm dry tannins, zingy acidity on a long finish. Decanted for 4 hours.

This is a great table wine. Year in and year out now.

What a great wine. I picked it up for $7.99 and it was the deal of the year. Great fruit, really approachable, a touch of chocolate and soft tannins. Highly recommended.

Fruity, tasty - black currant maybe?
Crisper - not as heavy and rounded a flavor as Alma Negra's Mendoza (2006).
Has a pleasant pungency or acidity.
A little surprising grape juicy-y flavor from time to time. For "surprising," read not all together awesome and a little distracting. Overall, not a bad wine. Would buy it again, especially on value for the money.

Bright red fruit, cedar on the nose.
Body is very juicy up front, nice oak element, cedarbox, little spicy element. A real mouth-filler, but not chewy. Nice balance and very tasty. Great find at $9.

you know the over-ripe berries that are still really tasty? - this has those in it. I'm with the leathery assessment, but there is not too much of it there. easy to drink and is a nice buy for the $.
