Rosemount Estate Shiraz Cabernet
We opened a bottle of red wine from our wine rack on 27th June 2006. A Rosemount Estate 2005 Shiraz Cabernet. If my research and understanding are correct, Shiraz and Cabernet are varieties of grape used in wine.

According to the label:

The Rosemount Shiraz Cabernet displays lifted spice and ripe berry aromas. The wine is rich in lively fruit flavours of blackberry and dark plums. The spiciness of the shiraz is complemented by the blackcurrant flavours of cabernet sauvignon filling the finish.

It’s a nice, aromatic wine with a tinge of spice which leaves a light and smooth taste in the tongue. Well, I mean, it doesn’t taste like you’ve just swallowed a mouthful of vinegar (minus the intense sourness). Bad wine does just that. The spiciness of the Shiraz Cabernet was strongly felt when I had another glass (from the same bottle) a day later.

TJ's had marked down two Rosemount wines to the unheard of price of $3.99! Couldn't pass THAT up. The nose has spicy cherry and not a lot of tannin. A hint of fennel, too. The wine is a deep, dark red. The taste is typical for Rosemount - a round, rich, mouth-filling fruit bomb filled with juicy cherry and berry. Tannin is more assertive in the taste, particularly at first, but after awhile the bite softens. Good dose of pepper, too, and though VERY fruity, it isn't particularly sweet, thankfully. Very enjoyable wine, though my favorite of the Rosemount blends is their Shiraz-Grenache. Now if I could find IT at $3.99!
