2006 Spann Mo Zin
(2010-01-18 17:58:28 UTC)The nose leads with raspberry and creamy oak with Cherry Coke notes. On the palate, the wine serves up very ripe mixed-berry fruit (almost raisiny) in a medium- to full-bodied, low acid framework. I think I can detect the Mourvèdre in a bit of meatiness coming through. Finishes with some black pepper, a bit of tannic presence and a touch of heat.
Despite the inclusion of substantial doses of Mourvèdre and Petite Sirah, the wine comes across to me a bit soft, with a lack of structure. If you don’t like big-boned wines, you might enjoy this wine for the pleasant flavor profile, but honestly, there are lots of cheaper alternatives.

(2009-11-22 01:41:11 UTC)The smell of Mourvedre's raspberry and the flavor of Zinfandel's pepper and dark berry fruit are magical. It may be a red blend, but it is my favorite zin. Not an inexpensive wine, but it definitely over delivers.

This was assembled, wheras the Lytton is a true field blend, but the truth is in the taste. This does taste good. The addition of the Mouvedre is a good thing, gives it body and depth. The Petit Sirah makes it's own contribution to power and complexity. Not particularly oaky. Lots of the fresh raspberry and blackberry fruit you would expect. You can tell the alcohol is around 15%. not bad
