A sledgehammer of a wine, thick and lacking subtlety. If you're already a syrah fan, this might be a good pick. But the Bin 61 easily overpowered grilled chops.

Tried the 2004 vintage and found it a bit rough around the edges too. Perhaps it needs a few more years, but I doubt it'll ever be a classic.

This has a plump, creamy, chocolaty, slightly minty nose. Smell this and you know you're in for a soft, plump wine. For the most part it is, though it's a tad more acidic than you might first expect, and also a bit tinny. Not complex or deep, but enjoyable. ($18, Austin TX, 2007)

Oh my what a big wine! Massive fruit, huge tannins, & somewhat acidic chewy minty tar body all bodes well for a wine that should grow more complex and balanced with aging. Tasted Feb 2008. I will put my 2 remaining bottles away for a few years and really look forward to trying later. Right now this wine is too big and unbalanced to be a sipping wine, though with a big ole grilled steak should be a winner.
