Coppola 2004 Black Label Claret
(over 2 years ago)Pretty good. I think Coppola is a little overrated. Like Rodney Strong, this vineyard has a stranglehold on the "safe pick" category in the marketplace. But at the end of the day, while there are more interesting options out there for the same price point, these guys do make some decent wine. This Claret is a bit "syrupy" but has a great finish. Hints of clove and tumeric with a smokey bouquet. The 2004 seems to be drinking just right.

(over 2 years ago)I liked it. I had it by itself, but I think it would go well with red meat. I think the smokey taste was enjoyable.

(over 2 years ago)Very smokey. Pairs fantastically with a great steak. Excellent entry wine for non-red drinkers that may be coming over for dinner. Doesn't overpower with tannins like some others.

(about 1 year ago)Smoky flavors. Pairs nicely with steak, but I thought it was particularly tasty with pancetta and some fresh mozzarella. Hints of clove and a syrupy but nice finish. A good stepping up wine for people who haven't done a lot of tasting.

(about 1 year ago)I love this wine. It's flavourful without being too heady and overpowering and a bonus is that it's one of very few red wines that doesn't give my girlfriend a headache.

(about 1 year ago)This is a great wine to go as an after dinner treat with some chocolate.

(about 1 year ago)This wine benefits from being decanted a good 30 minutes in advance of consuming. There is a strong smokey, unsweetened cocoa flavour to this wine that mellows nicely after the wine has breathed for a bit. This wine screamed to be paired with a good, juicy steak. The cost of this wine in Canada was around $32 CDN. In my mind there are more interesting wines for less.

(about 1 year ago)Fine middle of the road wine - fabulous for a casual dinner of rack of lamb, artichokes and tomatoes/fresh mozarella. Solid balance to the fats of the meal with the medium tannins.

(about 1 year ago)Excellent bottle. Enjoyed this with my drinking buddies, and found it to be very multi-dimentional in flavor. Being that we're new at tasting, we found this one to be more interesting than an average Cabernet.
