Clos du Bois 1989 Early Harvest Gewurztraminer

Found in my grandparents' basement standing up, I was hesitant about drinking this wine. The cork, predictably, had rotted a little. After straining, the wine had a beautiful gold color, but with the post-peak brown around the edges. The wine smelled like nectar, perhaps sweet honeysuckle. While it hadn't turned to vinegar, the flavor was simple: sweet (1.7% residual sugar) with a slight alcoholic bite (it was a mere 10.5% in 1989!). There was only the slightest echo of the floral nose; the flavor had faded. If you run across this, don't get too excited: it's simply past its time.
