NV Pinot Evil Non-Vintage Pinot Noir
(2009-12-24 08:42:56 UTC)I purchased a 3L cask of this wine as an experiment. It took me a couple of weeks of waffling, but I think I finally have an opinion about it.
First, this wine has needs. It needs to be paired with food...it's fine at the dinner table, but pretty unpleasant to sip by itself. It also needs to breathe for a good long time; I usually pour myself a glass while I'm cooking, at about T-30 to dinner. Let me preface my actual tasting notes by saying that this is a wine for drinking, not tasting.
Rubber and alcohol on the nose; it's very hot at first but it gets a little mellower after breathing. Tastes of alcohol and wine, with a vague and unsettling blood flavor. Very thin, and rough...my very first sip felt almost like it didn't want me to drink it and it was fighting back. There are cherries in there somewhere, but by and large they're ashamed to be a part of the whole affair, so they mostly hang out in the background. The roughness and heat are both much less noticeable with food. I actually had a pretty pleasant experience with this wine (after letting it breathe for 45 minutes), a bar of dark chocolate, and a book...but tasting it by itself is pretty disappointing.
Bottom line, it's mildly acceptable. There are much better wines out there in the same general price bracket. Reviews seem to be mixed, even with a sample size of one taster; my own views on it fluctuate widely from glass to glass. I personally probably wouldn't buy it again.

(2008-12-25 20:21:27 UTC)A very light red Pinot Noir, and in my opinion too lite. Light tannins, with Subtle notes of cherry. A very short finish, and simply put, this wine leaves you wanting more from it, but sadly the near watery flavors is all that it can grant you. I will say that a positive about this wine is the fact that those who are not used to, or simply do not like stronger, dryer wines will possibly take joy in this. I could see myself getting this wine as a gift for those who I want to get into wine. One could look at it is as a starter wine, but for those who love nice bodied wines with depth this just won't cut it. For me, a person who loves Pinot Noir, the name really does fit the wine. It truly is PINTO EVIL!!!!

(2008-05-28 04:59:10 UTC)This is an excellent first wine for non-drinkers. That said, it's so light that you might find yourself drinking twice as much just looking for some flavor. I definitely prefer richer wines than this.

(2008-04-25 19:34:26 UTC)Definitely a VERY light pinot. Quite smooth - low acidity, no tannins, bright fruit. It is, in fact, a good deal for about $5/bottle, but will not impress if you are used to California pinots.

(2008-03-17 12:45:29 UTC)Will be OK cooking wine...
the nose was cherry, the taste was fruity, if you swirl this, your tongue & mouth want to revolt against your body...
the finish was too short & not sweet but tannic & your mouth was left feeling like you had just vomited, like you felt OK after throwing up, but the bile/acid taste was still in your mouth, like someone had swabbed your mouth with an antiseptic...

(2007-08-05 18:29:10 UTC)I'd put this right in between the previous reviews. Definitely light and doesn't have a lot of body to it, but it did drink smooth and was a good sipping wine for an evening sitting around chatting with friends. Not a great pinot, but decent. I'd certainly drink it again.

(2007-07-02 02:31:25 UTC)After letting it breath about half an hour I drank this wine with some pizza. It initially tastes of cherry followed by a hint of vanilla and ends with an intense blackberry. On an intensity scale of 1 to 10 I would give the tannins a 4.5. This wine is easy to enjoy if you allow it to breath before consumption. Not bad for 6 dollars. The nose is of cherry. the finnish is a bit short, but overall this wine is enjoyable.
