Clarendon Hills 1996 Shiraz

I bought two of these to further my education of older wines after watching WLTV episode #290. In the past I have had plenty of Fruit Bombs and most recently the 2004 edition of this wine (which I did not care for) but, the tasting notes from GV on this particular wine had me interested. On the nose I get what I normally expect from a French Syrah. I would describe it as berries covered in pepper with some barnyard aromas. The palate is greeted with large amounts of black pepper and mature red berries. The finish is smooth, long, and leaves a smokey peppery flavor on the sides of your mouth. Balance is where this wine excels, there are very little sharp edges. I find this experience to be very enjoyable and I would recomend it if you have the chance.
