Bodegas Juan Gil Monastrell Jumilla 2004
(over 2 years ago)Cherry, currant, and tobacco dominate up front. Nice oak influence on the mid palate with some earth and vegetable tones including olive and mushroom. Concentrated flavors are tightly wound with firm tannins along a full body. Some exotic spice and heat from 14% alcohol kick in on the long finish. Very nice meaty quality to this one. I would put it up against all types of grilled meats.

(about 1 year ago)I actually tasted the 2003, and I agree with above, very thick and meaty. Flavor reminded me of coffee and tabacco. I feel the 2004 wasn't as good.

(about 1 year ago)Deep dark purple color with an interesting nose. Nice mild tannins with a long finish. I liked this one.

(about 1 year ago)Wow! A deep dark red - big & bold and full of dark berry & earthy, spicy flavours. I will definitely try this again. And again.

(11 months ago)Dark plum purple color. Tons of dark fruit on the nose. Also some creamy pastry. Cherries and a touch of oak on the palate. Good long chocolaty finish. Very nice.

(10 months ago)I was intorduced to this in a gastro pub in shaldon, devon. It was during a gourmet burger with canadian smoked bacon and blue vinney cheese, despite all those flavours this wine certainly left its mark with me. The blackberry, cherry and choclate seemed to act as dessert to the gut busting dinner. I also took 2 over priced bottles away from behind the bar.
